Pandemic Housing Issues

State Plumbing Inspections
Builders constructing in areas of the state that do not have local plumbing inspectors get their inspections from the Illinois Dept. of Public Health. I’ve received word that Public Health shut down inspections, except for emergencies, even before the Governor issued the Stay at Home Order.
If you are building a new home, it will be considered an emergency to do the inspection, but it will be done remotely with the use of a smartphone and facetime. Your plumbing contractor should contact the department and set up a time to do the remote inspection.
New Guidance on Showing Homes
Orders have come from the state on showing homes for sale, including new homes. Here are the guidelines.
- Open houses are NOT permitted.
- Showing occupied rental properties is NOT permitted.
- Showings of vacant or owner-occupied units ARE permitted if necessary and scheduled in advance but limited to no more than four people.
- Virtual showings ARE preferred.
