Home Builders Lobby Day is Here!
Bill Ward, Executive Vice President, HBAI
The 28th annual HBAI Lobby is upon us, and there is still time to sign up and get down here for the most important day of the year for home construction and remodeling in Illinois.
Please write to Evelyn Yowell in our office at eyowell@hbai.org and tell her you want to come to Springfield next Tuesday, May 9, 2017, to spread the word that home construction needs help.
We have 65 members signed up and could use another 35 to 40 if at all possible. So, get on the phone or on your computer and sign up so your voice is heard on Tuesday in Springfield. It will make the difference in how your business is taxed & regulated by the state of Illinois.
The day begins at 10:30 am at the Sangamo Club, located just two blocks from the Statehouse. A briefing of the day’s activities and the issues to be addressed will be provided during the morning session.
House Republican Floor Leader Steve Andersson, from Geneva, Illinois, will join us at 11 a.m. He will talk about his new role as Floor Leader, a position that requires him to debate every contested bill that is heard on the House floor.
We have lunch at noon and we will be joined by our good friend, State Senator Bill Brady, who also has a new position, Deputy Republican Leader in the Illinois Senate. His position is second only to Republican Leader, Christine Radogno, on the Republican side of the aisle.
We are still crossing our fingers that Governor Bruce Rauner will stop by; the Governor’s office has yet to respond to our invitation. But don’t count him out; he has a reputation in Springfield for just popping up around town and talking with anyone and everyone who he has a chance to meet.
Our top issues on Tuesday will be:
- Oppose Home Repair Tax (SB09)
- Support Prohibition of Transfer Taxes on Homes Paying Impact Fees (HB3826)
- Support Real Worker’s Compensation Reform
- Oppose Employers Mandated Paid Sick Leave (SB1296 & HB2771)
